cashmere rug braiding with Ilka White
we are pairing up with Ilka White to offer you the opportunity to make a wonderful rag rug using upcycled cashmere and merino wool sweater arms. in this two day workshop, Ilka will teach you a braiding technique that will transform fine wool sweater arms into quite possibly the softest & coziest floor covering you've set foot on.
while some rugs are perfect in high traffic areas of your home, these cashmere braided rugs belong where you walk in bare feet, for tender places that you can be soft in.
for this workshop, we have created bundles of cashmere & merino wool sweater arms for you to braid with. each bundle has 20 sets of arms and will make a 36" diameter rug approximately. you can wash your rug in the washing machine, on the most delicate cycle in cold water. hang to dry. we can't wait to see what you do with them!
Ilka White is an artist and teacher living in Australia, whose practice spans textiles, sculpture, cross-disciplinary collaboration & art-in-community. her classes reflect her love of the handmade, her contemporary use of traditional making methods and the principles of sustainability. she will be teaching this workshop online, via zoom, over two days Nov 26 & 27 2022 from 4 - 7 pm EST.
please note: we have done the time zone conversion from Australian Eastern Standard Time to Eastern Standard Time (Toronto) for her workshop. if you need to look up a different time zone, she has a link on the class sign-up page, where you can calculate the date and start time of her class for wherever you are!.
presenting the
13 moons of 2025-ish
a lil back-pocket moon calendar, charting the year ahead with our celestial time keeper.
hand-folded acordian booklet 4.75" high x 3.5" wide, total length 182" or 15'. printed on one continuous piece of 20lb matte paper.
each circle is a moon phase and represents 1 day. gregorian dates appear at every new moon along the bottom and every full moon along the top. quarter moons are noted with a straight line.
the moon's cycles are centered here, its movement from new to full illustrated in smooth waves along the length of the calendar. the gregorian dates appear only as reference points, giving us all the opportunity to attune to cycles celestial and ancient.
it is curious to me, the way 13 moon cycles of 27 - 29 days align very closely to one gregorian year. this year's 13 moons began with the new moon on december 30th 2024 and will end on the full moon on january 3 2026.
the moon keeps steady time, true to its own rhythms. it cannot be charted perfecting onto a grid. if you look closely you will see the number of days between each new and full moon fluctuates between 13 and 15 days.
moon math keeps you fresh!
v cute travel edition. open it to the cycle we're in right now or display the whole length along a hallway or around a room. designed like a colouring book, it can be filled in to track something in time with the moon.
available for sliding scale $23 - $33
